Ngorongoro Safari Tanzania

 

TLN 5. 2 nights/3 days Ngorongoro/Manyara. (1/2 day crater tour).

 

Day 1.
Start the Ngorongoro safari and Lake Manyara tour from Arusha driving this afternoon to the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater. Arrive at the Crater Rim where wild life will be viewed from above using binoculars. Dinner and Overnight at the Ngorongoro Sopa or Serena Lodge.


Day 2. Tanzania Safari to Ngorongoro
Morning drive into the crater to have a half day safari in the Ngorongoro Crater. Thereafter, leave this gameviewing paradise and return to the top of the Crater to have lunch at your overnight accommodation.

After lunch, start the Lake Manyara Safari arriving at Lake Manyara National Park in time for an evening game drive. You would be searching for the Big Five among them the famous tree climbing Lions of the Manyara and the Flamingos. Later, transfer to your overnight accommodation for dinner and overnight either at the Sopa/Serena or Other Safari camp in the Manyara.

 

Day 3.
Morning safari in Lake Manyara National Park. Look out for a variety of bird species, Elephant, Lion, Gazelle, reedbbuck, Waterbuck and Black .
The Manyara Safari ends with a leisurely drive back to Arusha arriving before 2pm.

Ngorongoro Crater Information

 

The Ngorongoro Crater is over three million years old and towers alongside the Great Kilimanjaro Mountain that has one of the highest altitude in Africa. The Ngongoro was formed in the course of the formation of the East African Great Rift Valley where the Volcanic top of the Mountain was blown away to provide sustenance for safari animals of Africa. It is also here in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area that fossils of the first Man have been discovered.

The Ngorongoro Crater area is in a protected area of over 8,000 square Kilometers and boasts of the finest landscapes, safari animals, local tribesmen and archaeological areas of Interest. The general landscape of the Ngorongoro wildlife area has been formed as a result of Volcanic activity and as a result, this has brought about some up warping and down warping of areas causing crater lakes and some hard rock outcrops. Part of this volcanic system which is still active is the Oldonyo Lengai Volcano which does contribute towards the Migrations in terms of providing minerals to the Serengeti plains. The ashes from this volcano are transported by the wind and other weather components.

 

Ngorongoro Safari Wildlife The Ngorongoro safari does not disappoint due to the fact that most animals in the crater are non migratory. All year around safaris in the crater is mad possible by the presence of pasture and ever present water supplies from the ngorongoro Crater floor. A population of over 20,000 Big Game animals is confined in the Crater and moves freely. These include Zebra, Wildebeest, hartebeest, Cape buffalo, gazelle, Warthog, hippo, Elephant, reedbuck, Olive Baboon, Eland, Bushbuck. The cats that form part of the big five safari include; Leopard, Lion, cheetah, hyena and other animals. Birdlife in the ngorongoro is also prolific with guaranteed sightings of stone chat, fiscal shrike, flamingo, augur buzzard and others.

 

Climate of Ngorongoro Crater Safari Lodges of the Ngorongoro Crater lie at the top of the rim which rises to over 7,000 feet above sea level. Temperatures get extremely low in the night dropping to about 8 degrees in the night and soaring to 30 degrees in the day. The coldest month in terms of temperatures is usually July which is sometimes characterized by snow!
