Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa, usually referred to as the “roof of Africa”, The Mount Kilimanjaro comprises of three volcanic cones which are’ Mount Kibo Mount Shira and Mawenzi Volcanoes. It should be noted that these are inactive volcanoes and the only volcanic activity on the mountain is only through vents in the side of the Mountain.

The highest point in Africa is at 5,892 at Uhuru a highlight for a Kilimanjaro Safari climber. It is also at this Mountain that you find snow right across the equator. Mount Kilimanjaro was formed as a result of eruption whereby, the molten rock materials were blown out of a volcanic cone and these mataerals building up to form a large volcanic mountain. The Kilimanjaro Mountain safari makes use of its three Volcanic cones. It is on these cone that tourist routes are planned.

The Kilimanjaro is a local word reffering to a little Mountain and was seen by one of the first explorers in the region by the Names of John Rebman and also was named Kilimandcharo at the time when Tanzania was governed under the German East Africa. The Kilimanjaro climbing routes up to the Peaks are the following: Marangu, Lemosho,Rongai, Umbwe Shira, and Machame the most beautiful of all these climbs. However, you should note that the Machame Kilimanjaro climb is much steeper. The Mount Kilimanjaro Rongai climb happens to the the simplest route although, one is expected to stay in mobile tents.

The Marangu Mountain climb is the most popular where mountain hikers stay at the Mountain huts along the way. Due to the volume of Mountain Climbers on this route, you will expect this to be a little crowded and very busy. The Vegetation cover on Mount Kilimanjaro comprises of tussock grasslands, Montane forests, heath, Giant Lobelia, bamboo and other unique plants.
