GORILLAS IN THE MIST RWANDA TOUR WITH GOLDEN MONKEYS AND CHIMPS - 8 DAYS 7 NIGHTS  

Day one:          
Arrival and transferred by a Travelust African Safaris representative to Kigali town for check in and overnight Mille Collines Hotel. Booked on a bed and breakfast basis. Mille Collines Hotel features is featured in the Oscar Winning movie “Hotel Rwanda”

Day Two:          
Breakfast at leisure before heading to the Nyungwe Forest on an easy 260 Kms transit. Attractions along the way include the National Museum of Butare and the Genocide Memorial of Murambi. After lunch in Butare, your Rwanda tour gets you to the Gisakura Guest House for dinner and overnight.   

Day Three:       
An early start in this equatorial forest teeming with wildlife yields colonies of the Black and White Colubus and the habituated colonies of Golden Monkeys. After the morning forest safari, we return for lunch and have the evening at leisure before dinner and overnight at the Gisakura Guest House.

Day Four:         
A very early morning start for the Rwanda Chimpanzee tour . The guides will be tracking a troop of habituated Chimps. We return for lunch then take a leisurely four hour drive through some magnificent scenery on the way to Bethanie Guest House.  Meals and overnight will be had here.

Day Five:          
The Rwanda Gorillas in the mist tour starts this day by driving up the Volcanoes headed for Kinigi on winding roads. Have lunch in Gisenyi before driving through some beautiful scenic points before heading up into the Volcanoes for dinner and overnight at the Mountain Gorilla’s Nest Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day Six:           
Morning breakfast before assembling at the Park offices for registration. The Gorillas in the mist tour starts here after a briefing by the Ranger Guides. Later, the gorilla tour which involves some strenuous trekking takes another couple of hours before a gorilla group is finally encountered. The Gorillas will be viewed for a proximately one hour before heading back to the Hotel for lunch. Evening is free to explore the nearby villages on foot or by safari vehicle before returning for dinner and overnight at the Mountain Gorillas Nest Lodge.

 

Day Seven:       
This morning, the guides will be ready to start early for the Fullday visit to the Karisoke Research Centre established by the famous Dr Dian Fossey. The Movie “Gorillas in the Mist was shot here on Location” and Graves of Dian Fossey’s together with her once beloved  Mountain Gorillas can be visited here. Return in the evening for dinner and overnight at the Mountain gorilla’s Nest Lodge.

 

Day Eight:        
Depending on the departure time of your flight, you will descend from the Gorilla Mountains to Kigali on a nice winding road taking approximately two hours to the airport for your flight out marking the end of the Gorillas in the Mist tour to Rwanda.

The Rwanda Gorillas in the Mist Tour price includes the following:

Accommodations, Meals, bottled mineral water, entrance fees, custom built 4x4x tour vehicle, Gorilla Permit, Chimpanzee permits, Golden Monkey Permits, Gorillas in the Mist Park fee, Dian Fossey and karisoke research centre tour.

Gorillas in the Mist Tour excludes the following:

Personal expenses like beverages, communication, laundry, tips, shopping, Travel Insurance cover, meals not listed above, airfare to and from Rwanda, tourist visas, extra Rwanda tours not indicated above.

PACKING LIST FOR THE GORILLAS IN THE MIST RWANDA TOUR

  • Good trekking/Hiking boots
  • Gloves for protection against nettles on the gorilla tour.
  • Rain proof rack-sack on the gorilla trek for your camera
  • Warm clothing
  • Sun hat or a poncho just in case of rain in the gorilla forest.
  • Long pants and long sleeved shirt
